While no one’s going to like everything, odds are that at least one of these voices belongs to someone whose work you enjoy and whose opinion carries some weight. Creators appear in alphabetical order, and the quotes come from various book intros, back-page review quotes and letters.
“Nexus does the unthinkable by somehow surpassing its landmark quality with each new Baron/Rude effort.” — Mike Allred
“When it comes to comic books, it just doesn’t get any better than this … ‘Light-years ahead.’ That was the tag line in those early Nexus ads. Even twenty-eight years later, this comic book is still light-years ahead. Of practically everything else on the stands.” — Joe Casey
“Nexus is a book that makes one want to come back next issue and the next and the next, and that is a real pleasure!” — Chris Claremont
“I herewith declare to an unbridled enthusiasm for Nexus. I’ve watched with pleasure as Mike and Steve have maintained their charm and skill and originality through one incarnation after another.” — Harlan Ellison
“Learning that Nexus is coming back is like hearing you’re going home again after years in the wilderness.” — Neil Gaiman
“On their own, Baron and Rude are good. Together, sparks fly. Together, they’re Nexus. This book played a big part in helping me decide this was what I wanted to do, and in forming me as a writer.” — Ron Marz
“Nexus is easily one of the best comic series ever, I can’t wait to see it return!” — Michael Avon Oeming
“(Steve Rude) brought Hellpopand crew to life with seemingly effortless melding of subtle characterization and bold, dynamic power … Mike Baron had developed a clever and fun sci-fi adventure with, quite frankly, a bit of a dark side … Baron and Rude have made Horatio Hellpop one messed-up cat. And I couldn’t be more happy about it.” — Eric Powell
“As a kid I read comics but eventually dropped them at the tender age of fourteen as I discovered baseball and girls. Then, at the age of 25 I was reintroduced to the world of funnybooks only to find, and happily so, that the art form had grown by light years from what I remembered. Several titles stood out to me as seminal works from that period and would serve as the backbone for my core beliefs of what a great comic should be. Nexus by Mike Baron and Steve Rude was one such comic. Needless to say, I’m not alone in feeling this way, so like so many others, all I can say is thank you to Mr. Rude and Mr. Baron for all the great entertainment and inspiration and thank you for creating Nexus.” — Joe Quesada
“Nexus is the granddaddy of the independent superhero and still outclasses the lot of ‘em!” — Alex Ross
I am so happy that one of my favorite comics of all time is back. I’ve followed them all over the comicbook universe and waited patiently for this day! Baron and Rude have been a huge influence on my comics work! More adventure, more drama, more politics, more Mezz, more Horatio, more Vooper, more everything!
I can say without reservation that NEXUS is the reason I pursued comics as a career. The sheer unbridled creativity leaping off every page, the depth of the characters and the world they inhabited, the lush vitality of Steve’s art inspired me to keep drawing night after night until I got my first gig, and then kept me excited about comics to this day. NEXUS is the one comic I go out of my way to find.
I am thrilled to see Nexus back! Hats off to Steve and Mike and everyone else involved for making this happen. One of the things Steve’s comics are is FUN and we are in short supply of that today in the comic book world. Nexus was one of my all-time favorite series and that’s saying a lot. Plus, he has lettering on the pages!!
I have been waiting for years for the return of Nexus to comic shops. All the while I kept muttering to myself, ” Why don’t those guys just publish it themselves!?!?!” Finally you have come around and realized that you must do it yourselves. We are the richer for it. Things are just getting underway but the plot seems to have already shifted into overdrive. Not only have you started up the new stories but you have released several handy reprints for us to catch up on things in case we were too lazy to dig out our back issues in that box stuffed in our closets, garages or wherever we may keep our vintage stash. I think this may well be the first time the Nexus Origin story has been printed in color? It looks great! How about making the Nexus soundtrack available as a downloadable mp3 for us fans? Maybe you guys can expand a bit into action gigures and model kits of the characters and Nexus’s spacecraft? Am I getting ahead of myself? Maybe. I am just so bleeding happy! Nexus is back!!!! Never leave us again!
I go to the comic stores about once a year to see if there is anything that interests me. Each year I always ask if there is anything going on with Nexus.. never expecting a yes. I was stunned this time to find out that Nexus is back and with Baron and Rude. Of course they were out of the copies and I had to drive to four stores before I found them. I still have my first edition with the record in it. I’ve never played it and have no idea what’s on it. Has anyone listened to it?
