ABOUT RUDE DUDE PRODUCTIONS
Steve Rude and his wife, Jaynelle, founded Rude Dude Productions, LLC in 2006 to revive his award-winning character, Nexus, and continue his new series, The Moth.
Oftentimes you’ll see new publishers come out with something called a mission statement. It declares why they’re publishing and what makes them different from other companies. Mission statements are fine, but seem rather pointless if the company is claiming bankruptcy 6 months later, which is too often the case. Why bother caring if the comics you’re excited about are gone in a few months? To comic fans, it’s just another reason to be let down by people they’re counting on to keep them entertained.
Therefore, the first point of our mission is surviving more than 6 months. By being extraordinarily shrewd about marketing and proving ourselves to the comic retailers, the ones who buy and sell our books to you fans, and that the books can be popular enough to sell enough numbers and come out on time. That’s goal #1.
On the surface, there isn’t much beyond that.
Internally, of course, there’s much more to Rude Dude.
Beginning back in the mid-nineties, comics began getting ugly and dark. The comics I grew up on in the 60’s and 70’s were fun and exciting. Real drama doesn’t need to equal “more like real life”. The best comics of the periods I mentioned had all the relevancy you need but were couched much more in the “excitement of fantasy”. And that’s what comic books best excel at. They were infinitely inspiring and made me dream in heroic and noble ways.
While Nexus, The Moth, and The Amazing Dude Tales we’ll be publishing aren’t Casper the Ghost, they are steeped in the tradition of the old Cap’s and Spidey’s we read in our more innocent days. If you feel the excitement of life and death after each issue’s installment, but without the ugly, and more in the light than the dark, you may just want to keep reading.
See you in a promising and exciting future with Rude Dude!
